The Rockwell Centre in BD10, formerly managed by the impactful Bloomin Buds Theatre, recently faced an operational challenge, leading to their difficult decision to step back despite their significant community support. Excitingly, the centre is poised to embark on a new chapter, soon reopening under fresh management. This revitalised initiative aims to continue serving the local community by providing a diverse array of supportive resources and engaging activities, ensuring the Rockwell Centre remains a valuable hub for the area.
Project Details
Heading into the growing season, the centre is keen to revitalise their existing allotment space that is in a state disrepair. Your task will be:
- Install small steps and handrail at entrance
- Repair existing raised beds (replacing timber)
- Build Mud kitchen
- General site clearance, cutting back and weeding raised beds
- Painting timber structures (preserver)
Volunteer Number
We are looking for a team of 20 volunteers
On-site support
On the day Participate will be providing a member of staff to support the volunteers. A trained first aider and first aid kit will be available during the challenge. A tools talk and health and safety briefing will be given by Participate at the beginning of the day.
Preparation
This is a relatively low risk challenge and where personal protective equipment is required it will be provided. This will include latex free gloves to protect rings etc when painting. Please be, you will get this on your clothing and will not wash out. This is why we recommend wearing clothing you don’t mind spoiling.
Volunteers will be working externally must wear old and reasonably robust clothing. Volunteers should pay particular attention to footwear wearing tough shoes or boots. Do not wear Crocs or open toe shoes such as sandals or flip flops. Finally, volunteers should prepare for the weather.
