TBC – Ruth Travers

Organisation Details

Sheriff Hutton Primary School is a small, nurturing rural primary school and integral community hub providing education and early years care for local children. Operating on a tight school budget with limited resources, they deliver a supportive, inclusive learning experience focused heavily on pupil wellbeing and community connection. They achieve this through dedicated teaching staff and wrap-around provision, directly benefiting local children, working families, and the wider rural community who rely on a vibrant, supportive local school.

Project Details

The school has a small pond area that has become overgrown in the last 12 months. It has been used previously for pond dipping with students and has a protect Newt living there. This is part of a wider aim to bring more outdoor space into usage and make the place aesthetically more appealing. Activities across the site include:
• Clearing overgrowth around pond
• Repairing fence rails
• Painting fencing, sheds and benches
• Painting metal fences and gates

Dates

Teams looking to engage in this activity should suggest some dates that would work best for them. We will then check these with the school and confirm a date.

On-site support

On the day Participate will be providing a member of staff to support the volunteers. A trained first aider and first aid kit will be available during the challenge. A tools talk and health and safety briefing will be given by Participate at the beginning of the day. We will also share with you our completed Risk Assessment for your own records.

Preparation

Volunteers will be undertaking general gardening and painting activities so are required to wear old and reasonably robust clothing that you will not mind getting paint on. We do offer paint overalls, although these do not guarantee no damage to clothing. We also require sensible sturdy footwear, avoiding heels and open toe footwear. Where personal protective equipment is required, it will be provided.

Materials, tools and equipment

Tools and materials will be provided by Participate Projects.
