Hollingwood Primary School, based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, is a two-form entry school with an on-site nursery and wrap-around care. As part of Pennine Academies Yorkshire, the school promotes inclusivity and high aspirations for all pupils. It includes a Resource Provision to support children with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The school’s ethos centers on ensuring that everyone feels safe, learns effectively, and is treated with respect. Hollingwood offers a broad curriculum enriched by outdoor learning, clubs, trips, sports, and music, fostering responsible, resilient, and resourceful learners.

Project Details

The school has an incredible outdoor growing space that in the past has been a valuable
resource. The project will include:

Full ground clearance
Repairing raised beds
Repainting raised beds
Restoring benches
Restoring learning pond

Number of volunteers

This is a large-scale transformation project; so, we will be looking to engage a team up to 30 volunteers.

On-site support

On the day Participate will be providing a member of staff to support the volunteers. A trained first aider and first aid kit will be available during the challenge. A tools talk and health and safety briefing will be given by Participate at the beginning of the day.

Preparation

This is a relatively low risk challenge and where personal protective equipment is required it will be provided. This will include latex free gloves to protect rings etc when painting. Please be, you will get this on your clothing and will not wash out. This is why we recommend wearing clothing you don’t mind spoiling. Volunteers will be working externally must wear old and reasonably robust clothing. Volunteers should pay particular attention to footwear wearing tough shoes or boots. Do not wear Crocs or open toe shoes such as sandals or flip flops. Finally, volunteers should prepare for the weather.
