Organisation Details

BEAT (Belonging, Empowering & Thriving) is a dedicated community charity based at a large community and sports hub in Hawksworth Wood, Leeds. Operating in an economically disadvantaged area with limited infrastructure, they deliver vital services, learning and training opportunities, health and wellbeing programmes, and creative projects. By providing a safe, welcoming space and a variety of community-led activities, the charity directly benefits local children, young people, and families. Their work fosters inclusion, addresses anti-social behaviour, and reduces isolation, helping a proud, resilient neighbourhood build a thriving and hopeful future together.

Project Details

Since taking over the building the small team have been trying to improve this run-down centre. Your task will be to bring a fresh lease of life to the centre through repainting various spaces. This will include:

Preparing surfaces
Filling any holes
Painting walls
Glossing woodworks

Volunteer Number

We are looking for teams of 10-25 volunteers.

On-site support

On the day Participate will be providing a member of staff to support the volunteers. A trained first aider and first aid kit will be available during the challenge. A “Tools Talk” and health and safety briefing will be given by Participate at the beginning of the day.

Preparation

Volunteers will be undertaking painting activities and are required to wear old and reasonably robust clothing that you will not mind getting paint on. We do offer paint overalls, although these do not guarantee no damage to clothing. We also require sensible sturdy footwear, avoiding heels and open toe footwear. Where personal protective equipment is required, it will be provided.

Materials, tools and equipment

For contract partners looking to take up this opportunity, there will be a need to purchase materials (paint and gloss). Tools such as rollers and brushes will be provided by Participate Projects
