Organisation Details
The Valley Project provides a safe outdoor space for children and young people to meet, play and develop socially, emotionally and physically. They run regular open access sessions where children use hand tools to build dens, tree houses, climbing & jumping towers and generally let their imaginations run wild. Their main aims are:
- Provide a safe outdoor space
- Reduce inactivity & isolation
- Reduce bullying & anti-social behaviour
- Increase children’s social & emotional competency
- Increase children’s creativity & problem-solving skills
Project Details
The site can have between 75-125 young people accessing the site 5 times a week. The level of upkeep and maintenance is large especially when you factor in seasonal changes. Your task will be to give the site a really good clear out. This will include:
- Building jumping platform
- Building suspended walkway
- Clearing pathways
- Painting play structures
- Clearing the site of overgrowth
- Clearing the site of fallen leaves
Number of Volunteers
We are looking for a team of up to 20 volunteers.
On-site support
On the day Participate will be providing a member of staff to support the volunteers. We will also be supported by trained Valley Project staff. A trained first aider and first aid kit will be available during the challenge. A tools talk and health and safety briefing will be given by Participate at the beginning of the day.
Preparation
Volunteers will be undertaking construction, painting and gardening activities and are required to wear old and reasonably robust clothing that they do not mind being potentially stained by paint. Volunteers should pay particular attention to footwear wearing tough shoes or boots. Do not wear heeled or open toe shoes, this included crocs and flip flops. This is a relatively low risk challenge and where personal protective equipment is required it will be provided. This will include safety gloves. This challenge is taking place outdoors and as such the volunteers should be prepared for inclement weather or sunshine.
