Organisation Details

Demelza Kent provides vital specialist care and emotional support for children with serious or life-limiting conditions and their families across the region. Based in Sittingbourne, they offer tailored services including clinical care, bereavement support, and short breaks within their fully accessible facilities. By providing a sensory room, hydrotherapy pool, and inclusive gardens, Demelza ensures families can create precious memories together in a safe, supportive environment during incredibly challenging times.

Project Details

They have amazing grounds in which children and their families can explore. There is however a section they are keen to develop and bring into usage. The space will be cleared and a new paved area in its place. This will include:

Removing and clearing area
Digging down and applying a membrane
Covering with two aggregates
Laying paving slabs (dry)

The site also has structures that require painting along with some cutting back of overgrowths.

On-site support

On the day Participate will be providing a member of staff to support the volunteers. A first aid kit will be available during the challenge. A tools talk and health and safety briefing will be given by Participate at the beginning of the day.

Number of Volunteers
We are seeking a team of between 10-15 volunteers for this activity.

Preparation

This is a relatively low risk challenge and where personal protective equipment is required it will be provided. This will include latex free gloves to protect rings etc when painting. Please be, you will get this on your clothing and will not wash out. This is why we recommend wearing clothing you don’t mind spoiling.
Volunteers will be working externally must wear old and reasonably robust clothing. Volunteers should pay particular attention to footwear wearing tough shoes or boots. Do not wear Crocs or open toe shoes such as sandals or flip flops. Finally, volunteers should prepare for the weather.
