Organisation Details
Swinnow Community Centre is a vibrant local hub that has undergone a significant revival under new management over the last few years. By listening to residents, they have transformed the centre into a vital space for community cohesion. They deliver essential sessions including a weekly café, youth clubs, and groups for toddlers. These practical activities provide much-needed support and social connection for people of all ages across the Swinnow area.
Project Details
Part of the revival is developing the underutilized outdoor space. For now, all ideas/activities are included. What we commit too will be depending on the contract providers. Your challenge will be to fix that by completing the following, Site Plan below:
• Install 25m~ path
– Edging timber, Weed block, Woodchip
• Install 5x Sleeper along the path
– Timber Sleepers, Post mix, Sundries
• Build A Mud kitchen
– Timber, Sundries
• Build 2x Picnic Benches
– Timber, Sundries
• Painting New Structures
– Wood Preserver
• Install three ‘Tire Play Structures’
– Timber, Used Tires, Sundries
• Replace three raised beds
– Timber, Topsoil, Sundries
❖ Sundries refers to a mixture of nuts, bolts and screws.
Number of Volunteers
We would be looking to engage a team of between 15-20 volunteers for this volunteer day.
Food Option
Refreshments will be available free of charge throughout the day. This includes water, tea, coffee and soft drinks. The centre also holds their community cafe on a Thursday mornings. Volunteers are welcome to order hot sandwiches or breakfast, prices below:

On-site support
On the day Participate will be providing a member of staff to support the volunteers. A trained first aider and first aid kit will be available during the challenge. A tools talk and health and safety briefing will be given by Participate at the beginning of the day. We will also share with you our completed Risk Assessment for your own records.
Preparation
Volunteers will be undertaking construction/general DIY and are required to wear old and reasonably robust clothing that you will not mind getting paint on. We also require sensible sturdy footwear, avoiding heels and open toe footwear. This includes Crocs, Flip-flops and Sandals. If you do have safety boots, wear them. Where personal protective equipment is required, it will be provided.
